Biobank: a gold mine for future research!

In recent years, the analytical possibilities in the field of genetic diagnosis have immensely increased. Scientific research learns us more about the consequences of genetic mutations and thereby may offer therapeutic approaches. To further facilitate scientific research in clinical genetics, the Biobank Clinical Genetics Maastricht was founded in 2014, with obtained approval of the Ethics Committee of Maastricht University Medical Centre.

DNA samples from patients who visit the outpatient clinic are stored in the Biobank, together with phenotypic data of these patients. Samples are available for distinct patient groups, namely cardiogenetics, oncogenetics, intellectual disability/multiple congenital anomalies, rare diseases, dermatogenetics, reproductive genetics and myotonic dystrophy type 1. For some patient groups other biomaterial besides DNA is stored, such as plasma, serum, RNA and tissue samples.

Biobank samples

Biobank samples are available for researchers from Maastricht UMC+ as well as for researchers from other (international) centres.

Should you be interested in using Biobank samples and/or data for your research project, please contact the coordinator of the Biobank for more information.
