Miriam Urlings, MSc (1991) has obtained her bachelor in health sciences in 2012 and her master in Health Food Innovation Management in 2014, both at Maastricht University. This education led to a broad interest in the interaction between food and health, including human physiology, consumer behavior and policy development.
During her masterthesis she studied the role of science in the authorization procedure of Genetically Modified Foods. During this period, her interest in quality of scientific research and the intercourse between science and the consumer aroused.
At the department of Complex Genetics, Miriam works as a PhD student on the project Sound Science: Selective citation in science based decision-making. This project will assess the occurence of citation bias, by performing a network analysis, in several academic fields. Miriam will work under direct supervision of prof. Maurice Zeegers and Gerard Swaen, PhD.
