Ozlenen Simsek Papur finished her PhD in the department of Medical Biology and Genetics in Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir (Turkey). She is still working in the department of Molecular Medicine as an assistant professor in Dokuz Eylul University.
She has joined Jan Glatz' and Joost Luiken’s groups and has focused on diabetic cardiomyopathy. She is involved in a project attempting to upregulate glucose utilization in the diabetic heart through specifically targeting signaling pathways involved in GLUT4 translocation. This may contribute to curing diabetic cardiomyopathy. Her project is entitled 'Unraveling signaling downstream of protein kinase-D1 in the regulation of cardiac substrate preference: application for restoring cardiac function in diabetic cardiomyopathy', during which she will closely work together with PhD student Aomin Sun.
